The two lasers in the VIL are the 40 watt laser and the 100 watt laser. They both do the same thing, except the 100 watt laser is able to cut through thicker material and has a larger bed to place material. Both of these are able to cut and engrave materials such as wood, cardboard, acrylic, and much more. Make sure to consult the Material Safety Data Sheet to check which materials are ok to use!
Who Can Use It?
Anyone can use our laser cutters, but make sure to check with lab workers certified to use it before you cut anything! You can use the training modules to learn how the machine works.
Cutting vs Engraving
Cutting – a focused laser beam burns through material at slow speeds in order to create a shape
Engraving – a focused laser beam cuts through the surface material in order to make a visible etching
If you want to read more about the laser cutters or are trying to troubleshoot a problem, you can download the user manual above for additional information.
